We Can Treat What’s Ailing You

Chiropractic Adjustments

Spinal joints that aren’t moving right can pinch or irritate nearby nerves. Chiropractic adjustments add motion to these stuck joints, reducing nervous system disruption and returning normal body motion. Then, health has the best opportunity to return. When delivering the adjustment, sometimes a specific highly-accurate thrust is used. Or an instrument delivers carefully directed energy. Or a slow, constant pressure is used. Several areas may be adjusted, or just one. Sometimes a popping sound is heard.

Because we rely on adjustments to help your body “right itself”, we’re highly proficient.

Most patients report a sense of well-being and ease. After all, if adjustments weren’t pleasant, our patients wouldn’t return and become patients of De Jong Chiropractic.
Newborns, infants, children, seniors and even back surgery patients can get adjusted. Naturally, adjustments are tailored to your size, age and particular health issue.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used medical procedures in the world, which dates over 5000 years ago in China. It involves inserting sterile hair-thin needles through the skin into specific “acupoints”. These acupoints are located throughout the body within a network of meridians, or channels of energy flow. Acupoints are stimulated to get desired effects by the acupuncturist or through electrical stimulation.

Acupuncture has a positive physiological effect on the body in many ways. Acupuncture stimulates the central nervous system to release chemicals that dull pain, boost the immune system, and regulate body function. It also stimulates the brain to release serotonin and endorphins, which reduce the stress response and emotional complaints. Acupuncture improves blood circulation and provides nourishment to nerves and muscles for an increased healing response. Thermal imaging shows that acupuncture treatments make inflammation subside. Last, but certainly not least, acupuncture treatments reduce activity in the limbic system, otherwise known as the “emotional brain,” and activate areas of the brain associated with rest and recuperation. The World Health Organization endorses acupuncture as a highly effective treatment for over forty-two different pathologies.

After the skin points are determined, we can use one of over 30 methods of stimulation. The most common technique we use a more modern approach of Electrical Stimulation of the specific points. This technique is safer than using needles, there is no danger of infection, no blood, and the technique is virtually painless. The results are equal to, if not better than the majority of other acupuncture techniques.

Headaches

If you suffer the pain of migraines and headaches, you are not alone. About nine out of ten people in the United States suffer from headaches, and more than 37 million Americans suffer migraine headaches.

Headaches and migraines are often the result of a poorly aligned spine, especially the vertebrae in the neck and upper back. Dr. De Jong will realign vertebrae to reduce the pain and frequency of headaches and migraines. Stress causes headaches and migraines by tensing muscles, especially those at the base of the skull. Tense muscles prevent blood from flowing freely; poor circulation prevents nutrient-rich blood from reaching oxygen-starved muscles and organs. Chiropractic care relaxes these muscles to restore proper circulation.

Sports

Chiropractic care has received much attention in regards to its successful management of sporting injuries. Since the majority of sports injuries are soft tissue in nature and because many of injuries arise from improper body biomechanics and improper sporting techniques, chiropractic doctors have become the doctors of choice – from the weekend warrior to the professional athlete.

It’s really quite simple. Chiropractic care – through the use of safe and natural spinal adjustive techniques, soft tissue mobilization, stretching and exercise programs, diet and nutritional counseling, and extensive biomechanical training – focuses on all causes which have led to the symptoms of pain and tissue injury and do not focus on solely eliminating pain.

Pregnancy

Many pregnant women have found that chiropractic adjustments provide relief from the increased low-back pain brought on by pregnancy. Chiropractic manipulation is safe for the pregnant woman and her baby and can be especially attractive to those who are trying to avoid medications in treating their back pain. Doctors of chiropractic can also offer nutrition, ergonomic, and exercise advice to help a woman enjoy a healthy pregnancy.

Children

Children are some of the biggest beneficiaries of chiropractic care. Surprised? Those who think of chiropractic as primarily a solution for neck and back problems are surprised to learn that chiropractic can be helpful for many types of childhood health problems.

Infertility

Even before birth, restoring nervous system control of reproductive organs has blessed many chiropractic patients with the child they thought was impossible.

Traumatic Birth

Have your newborn checked shortly after birth to detect the effects of in-utero constraint, C-section, vacuum extraction or other aspects of a stressful birth.

Colic

Birth trauma, even from so-called “natural” birthing experiences can often produce a child’s first nerve compromise. Lacking the ability to communicate, your baby cries. And cries.

Ear Infections

Biomechanical restrictions in the upper spine can compromise the nervous system and immune system, making your child’s ears a breeding ground for viral infection.

Bedwetting

Nervous system compromise in the lower back can block nerve messages responsible for bladder control. Many children regain their confidence and self-esteem with chiropractic care.

Reducing nervous system tension can improve virtually every aspect of your child’s performance.

ADHD

Many parents investigate conservative chiropractic care before exposing their children to psychotropic drugs. Reducing tension to the nervous system has produced excellent results for many.

Asthma

By reducing neurological compromise to the bronchial tubes, lungs and diaphragm with chiropractic care, attacks can often be reduced or eliminated with chiropractic care.

Growing Pains

Pain of any type is a warning that something isn’t right. While considered a “phase they’re going through,” it’s usually a sign that biomechanical stress to the nervous system is present.

Scoliosis

Instead of crude bracing or the all too common “wait and watch” approach, chiropractic care has helped countless children with this common disfigurement.

Wellness

An obvious symptom isn’t required! Enjoy the peace of mind of having your infant or child checked to uncover structural or neurological problems before they become serious.

Many of the hard-to-correct problems we see in adults are long-standing problems that began, and remained undetected in childhood. If you have questions, use the email link below. Or give us a call and arrange a telephone consultation. We’re happy to discuss any concern without cost or obligation.

Low back pain

Low back pain is one of the most common pain complaints facing Americans. Back pain is a leading cause for missed work and lost productivity, robbing individuals of their ability to lead an active life. Traditional medical treatments focus only on alleviating the symptoms of back pain and fail to address the root cause. Consequently, low back pain continues to affect patients. Here at De Jong Chiropractic and Acupuncture, our approach to treating low back pain is different. We treat both the symptoms and the root cause, so our patients benefit from long-lasting relief without any drugs or surgery.

Back pain is caused by either a mechanical misalignment or a soft tissue injury. Mechanical misalignments such as a herniated disc or slipped disc compress nearby nerves, triggering pain. A soft tissue injury, such as a muscle strain or sprain, can compromise mobility and affect your quality of life. Both of these injuries require prompt treatment in order to properly heal and effectively manage pain.

Chiropractic adjustments are key to correcting this misalignment. Adjustments are a gentle, non-invasive and drug free pain management technique. We will first perform diagnostic tests to determine the precise location of any spinal subluxations. Once the location for these subluxations is found, we will create a custom treatment program to bring proper alignment back to your spine. Chiropractic adjustments create space between the vertebra for proper alignment, relieving pressure on the nerves. While many patients experience immediate low back pain relief after just one or two treatment sessions, other patients benefit from ongoing care for chronic pain relief.
